When we lived in BC, I became fascinated with alpacas. I knew nothing about them, only that they were so beautiful and seems like a good animal for a small hobby farmer to keep. Coming home to Manitoba and buying an acreage seemed like the perfect opportunity to have a few animals to keep and care for. Our ability to live in the country, breathe fresh air, space to contemplate life (!!) and grow our own vegetables. What more could a person ask for?
As it turns out, llamas have come to live with us, and so far, they've been an interesting addition to our herd. More often than not, one of us can be found out with the llamas, feeding grain, talking to them (even though they don't talk back!) and getting llama kisses. What a blessing! Our latest fleecy babies added to our family came in fall of 2011, with three Icelandic ewes. Oh my goodness...I love these sheep! They are so full of personality, and if you need a good laugh, you just go visit for a few minutes. That's all it takes.
But I digress...It really is all about the animals. These fleecy creatures have the ability to provide us with their wonderful fibre, from which I can create yarn to sell, to knit or crochet, or to weave cloth with...Now I ask again - what more could a person ask for? In return, they get yummy hay, sweet grains, fresh water and a place to call home. Really, the bonus is for us. To be blessed to have these sweet creatures in our lives, it makes us feel special.
We currently offer raw fleece, washed locks, commercially prepared top and rovings, both ecru and dyed, as well as spinning supplies and hand spun yarn. In the future, our lovely animals will also be offering up some of their wonderful fiber for you to enjoy as well. Check out our online store for these items and more!
